St Michaels and All Angels Compassionate Schools Award

πŸŽ₯ We’re so proud to share this wonderful video! πŸ’™

This video was created by Dr Richard Slinger, Consultant Clinical Psychologist – Lancashire Emotional Health and Wellbeing in Education Settings, Health Innovation One, Lancaster University, following his visit to our school.

Richard spent time visiting our school, interviewing me, and β€” most importantly β€” meeting our wonderful children and staff. He was so pleased with what he saw and heard, and the video beautifully captures some of the work we are so passionate about. 🌟

We are incredibly proud that this work formed part of the evidence contributing to us becoming one of the first schools in Lancashire to achieve Compassionate Hub status. πŸ’™

Even more amazingly, we are one of only 6 schools across Lancashire to have achieved this recognition! πŸŽ‰

A huge thank you to Dr Richard Slinger for taking the time to visit us, listen to our story and showcase the incredible work happening across our school community.

Please take a few minutes to watch the video β€” we hope you enjoy seeing what makes our school so special. πŸ₯°

Proud of our children. Proud of our staff. Proud of our school community. πŸ’™

We are incredibly proud to have achieved the LEHSS Compassionate Schools Award, which recognises the genuine dedication schools demonstrate in implementing a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing.

We were one of only three primary schools in Lancashire to receive this award – the first three primary schools ever to achieve this prestigious recognition.

Throughout the programme, we:

  • Completed the Self-Assessment Tool across all eight principles, identifying strengths, areas for development, and clear actions for improvement, with designated leadership oversight.

  • Shared examples of best practice through Our Scrapbook in the areas of:

    • Leadership and Management

    • Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education

    • Student Voice

  • Engaged in a comprehensive range of professional development opportunities, attending training from:

    • Core and Refresher Training Series

    • Skills for the Mind Training Series

    • Working with Parents and Carers Training Series

    • Identifying Need and Monitoring Impact Training Series / Senior Mental Health Lead Training

    • Relationship, Connectedness and Belonging Training Series

    • Targeted Support Training Series

  • Demonstrated how learning from each training programme has been embedded into practice, sharing evidence through Our Scrapbook to showcase the positive impact on our whole-setting approach.

  • Attended three or more sessions from the Relationship, Connectedness and Belonging Training Series and at least two LEHSS Consultation Sessions to strengthen our provision further.

These achievements highlight our ongoing dedication to creating a supportive, inclusive environment where emotional health and mental wellbeing are prioritised for all members of our school community.

Our commitment does not end with receiving these awards. As one of the first three primary schools in Lancashire to achieve the LEHSS Compassionate Schools Award, we are proud to be members of the Compassionate Schools Hub Community. As part of this network, we continue to develop and strengthen our own practice while showcasing the work taking place in our school. We are also committed to supporting and inspiring other educational settings on their journey towards achieving the Compassionate Schools Award, sharing our experiences and helping to promote a culture where mental health and wellbeing remain at the heart of education.
