On Monday 17th March 2025 Year 5 children from Marsden Primary School in Nelson joined Year 5 at St Michael and All Angels Primary School in Foulridge for a morning of art. At first, some of the children were apprehensive about sitting with each other but by lunchtime all of the children were talking together and enjoying spending time getting to know each other. The theme of the artwork was ‘Nature’. The children produced some fantastic individual pieces of artwork and had the opportunity to paint on a collaborative canvas too. Here are some comments from Year 5 at St Michaels:

Marsden came to our school and we had a blast. We did some painting together, we coloured together and we had lunch together. I had an amazing time and I’m sure they did too! Harriet Year 5

It was a great day meeting an artist. Osmar was sound and I found out that his favourite food was pizza. The children from Marsden were so kind and polite. Connor Year 5

I liked drawing with Marsden school. We drew nature. At some point you got picked to paint on the artist’s canvas with acrylic paints. We got to draw birds, rivers, trees, fish and owls. Lilly Year 5

I liked drawing with Marsden, I got to make friends and talk with them. I got to paint and learn from an artist. Henry Year 5

I liked yesterday because we got to talk to other people from another school. We also got to draw pictures of nature because a professional artist came in. We got to play outside with the children from the other school and we did collaborative art together. Jenson Year 5

Thank you to Marsden for coming to our school! We did lots of drawings then we did painting and played outside together. Tommy Year 5

First of all, we got the choice to draw a tree, owl, fox or birds and we sketched out some of each. Next, we were given a piece of card to draw our final sketches. In between that, we were called up to paint with an artist and we all got a go at painting. After that, we went outside and played together. Then we did more art and finally we ate our lunch together. Lyla Year 5

I enjoyed it when Marsden came because I made new friends. It was fun when we did collaborative art because we came up with lots of ideas. Thank you for coming Marsden, I really enjoyed it. Leola Year 5

Thank you Marsden Primary for coming to our school and joining us to do those wonderful art activities. First, we did a beautiful drawing of a river, owls, trees and foxes. We then did a collaborative artwork with the artist that visited. After, we had a fun time playing together at playtime and had a nice chat at lunchtime. Arla Year 5

On Thursday 7th March 2024, Year 5 went to Marsden Primary school on a collaborative art project focusing on identity. They worked with the artist Gosha Gibek.
